Throughout the Museum’s second and third floors you will find various exhibits featuring precontact Southwest pottery and artifacts primarily from the NAN Ranch and Eisele collections.

These exhibits include, but are not limited to:

  • the Mimbres stylistic sequence and changes in decoration over time
  • miniature vessels and vessels made by children
  • the precontact brewing of corn beer
  • ceramics at the time of Mimbres abandonment
  • precontact potter identification
  • Upland Mogollon ceramics
  • modern Southwest pottery featuring Mata Ortiz and a large collection of Maria Martinez
Other artifact categories on display include worked stone, bone tools and carvings, an interactive jewelry display, bows and arrows, baskets, and sandals. As part of the Clint & Dee Johnson exhibit, adobe pieces from Mimbres pueblo rooms that feature beam casings and handprints are available to view. As new collections are acquired and long-hidden pieces are rediscovered, Museum staff frequently change out pieces. Museum staff is also dedicated to providing the most up-to-date scholarly information. No objects known to be from burial contexts are on display.
